Multi party democracy. Some powers devolve to the nine Provinces, which have their own Legislatures.

Economy

Abundant supply of natural resources. Well-developed financial, legal, communications, transport and energy sectors.

Currency

The Rand. One Rand is made up of 100 cents. Travellers cheques and foreign currency can be exchanged at banks and foreign exchange bureaux. Visa, Master card and Diners club cards are widely accepted.

Climate

Conditions are generally warm and temperate. There is an abundance of sunshine. Generally the months of April and May are the most pleasant. These months mark the end of summer and the beginning of winter. In the generally hot and humid eastern coastline (KwaZulu Natal) the dry months of May to August are particularly good for game viewing. At this time water resources have dwindled resulting in larger concentrations of game and predators close to available water.

Language

There are 11 official languages. English is generally the language used in both public and private enterprise.

Health

Consult your personal physician regarding any vaccinations or medication that may be necessary before visiting South Africa. Many private hospitals across the country offer very high standards of medical care. Emergency medical evacuation services are available countrywide.

Food

Food comparable to anywhere in the world is available in all of the larger towns. Lodges and camps serve meals of the highest quality.
